The benefits of having a gym partner

Whether it is a lifelong friend or someone you just workout with, working out with a friend is a good idea and here is why:

#1 Increase the results

Being able to genuinely push yourself, when there is just you in the equation, is a really difficult thing to do. Not many people can dial into maximum effort without someone else pushing them along. Working out with a friend is a great way of doing this.

#2 Increased motivation

It’s cold, rainy and dark. You have got into a nice warm house after a long hard day at work. The easy thing to do is not to get into your gym gear and go! If you know you are meeting a gym buddy the likelihood is you just crack on and get out! When you have planned a workout in advance you are far more likely to make it.

#3 Mix it up

Lets face it, going to the gym can get tedious when you are on your own. You start off with a goal in mind and a routine that addresses that goal. It becomes very easy to get stuck in a rut. When there are two people working out the focus and routine naturally changes. We bounce ideas off each other and so the monotony loses!

#4 Two people exercises

Think throwing and catching medicine balls with combined squats, partner push-ups there are so many angles and options for our workout when you include two people.

#5 Interval it

You can achieve interval training within your exercises. Person one does as many reps of an exercise until either exhaustion or a time limit and then person two takes over whilst person one has a recovery period. Interval training is an excellent way of losing weight and shredding some fat.

#6 Set challenges

When you have been working out for a while with your partner you can push them. You can compete against each other within your own capabilities. Using some targets and competition adds a different element to your training and pushes you that extra percent.

#7 Mental wellbeing

One of the great things about being active is that it gives us a sense of physical and mental wellbeing. The essence of sport is to socialize and going to the gym shouldn’t mean we lose focus on that. By going with a gym buddy(ies) you can really feel great about your time in the gym.
