Skipping is something most of us associate with Primary School Physical Education lessons, and for many of us that will be the last time we skipped! The truth is we all should be doing it a lot more as the health benefits are expediential! So pick up your rope and get involved and here is why!
- Calorie burn
Skipping is an incredible HIIT workout that burns over 1300 calories in an hour. That is an incredibly efficient way to burn fat, it is more effective than running and cycling, in fact 10 minutes of skipping burns more calories than running for 45 minutes! Oh and, with practice, it is possible to skip for that long in your cardio workout!
- No excuses
Unlike running, cycling and other workouts it is cheap and easy. You need a rope and a small amount of space to get going. If it is sunny do it outside, if it is raining stay indoors, no excuses!
- Float like a…..
Skipping not only give you a great cardio workout, it also helps you improve co-ordination balance and focus. A few whips on the legs from the ropes and you will soon be focused on the task in hand!
- Tone up
When we perform the skipping action we are actually toning our leg, arm and core muscles. Skipping for a length of time is an unbelievable core workout and should leave you feeling like you have done a serious all-over workout.
- Hip, hip!
The hip flexors, which are a vital muscle, get a great workout during a skipping session. They are constantly being flexed and moved.
Because skipping is so good at getting the Heart Rate going it is a superb way of increasing your stamina. By getting the blood pumping we are increasing the efficiency of our cardiovascular system and ultimately improving stamina.
- Strong bones
According to some leading doctors skipping helps increase bone density, particularly in the neck area. It can help reduce the risk and suffering from Osteoporosis and help us avoid injury.
