HIIT and anti-ageing

High Intensity Training and the unexpected benefits….

There are plenty of people who hit the gym and do HIIT! (High Intensity Interval Training) But there are also plenty of people who spend 95% of their time in the gym lifting and doing low-cardio work. Whilst this works, and we can get the results we want from such a workout, is there any other reason we should be doing HIIT?

HIIT could be the way to combat anti ageing. Exercise, we are often told is the key to being healthy, but following a study by Sreekumaran Nair at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota there may be some other benefits as well as that healthy feeling.

In the study the participants were in 2 different age groups 18 to 30 and 65 to 80 and over 3 months they did interval training, weight training and a combination of the 2.

Interval training boosted mitochondria in cells to boost energy by 69% in the older volunteers and 49% in the younger group. Normally mitochondrial activity declines with age, and in the older group this decline was halted, and even reversed!!

The older group also saw surges in their lung, heart and circulation health. The amount of oxygen they could inhale and consume rose by 28%. The result was they felt and looked younger and fitter.

With all this evidence what are you waiting for, let’s HIIT it, try out one of our classes and we’re sure you’ll see the results for yourself!!!
