When you meet a Personal Trainer it is easy to make some assumptions; that they have always been fit, into sport and motivated are some easy conclusion to make. Tasha Wilde, PT at i-motion Rotherham, is keen to dispel this myth. She has used her own journey to change her life, career and help her clients. This is her Transformation story:
“As you can see from my before pictures I have not always looked like the Tasha most of you know, I have had my own battle; with my weight, my diet, my mental state where food is concerned and my health. I used to weigh in at 95kg (15 stone), looking back now I don’t know how I let it slip that far out of my control, and how I didn’t notice I’d become so unhealthy and so overweight.
I, like most women my age, have done every fad diet out there and NONE worked, not one, no matter how much they cost, had a long term benefit. I just kept ending up bigger and bigger. I’d mess my metabolism up by under eating, then binge eating when I could stick to it anymore, the cycle is familiar to a lot of stories I hear from my clients. But there was worse to come.
Once you have been trapped in this cycle for so long you tend to become more and more desperate, you feel less and less like you are going to achieve your fitness goals. Then it starts to affect your mental health, I started eating emotionally, no matter what emotion it was, happy, sad, angry or just bored. Next thing I knew I was 15 stone and in a constant cycle of the next fad diet. Ultimately I was depressed. Something had to change.
I joined the gym, this gym, i-motion Rotherham to be exact. I had no idea what I was doing, like most people that walk through the doors for the first time, but the staff where on hand to help and I tried a few classes to start me off. I signed up to the Sheffield Half Marathon, it seemed crazy but I needed an ambitious end goal, I had never run a mile but I actually really enjoyed it and while training for that the weight started to come off. I got advice and cleaned up my diet, I tried to stay away from processed food and stick to a calorie and macro goal using My Fitness Pal.
I found out that losing weight, and eating healthy was also a cycle, and once I started it I gained momentum within the new, healthier regime. I got down to 12.5 stone and felt better mentally and physically. I completed the half marathon and new that the end line was the start of a new life journey. I loved this new found energy I had, loved the gym, coming to gym, but most of all I wanted to help others through the battle I had been through.
I have cried, I’ve given up, I’ve shouted when the scales haven’t reflected the hard work I’ve put in, I’ve fallen off the wagon, but I’ve got back on and stayed on. So I became a PT and came to work where it all started. I figured if I can relate to the journey my customers have been on that should make me a good Personal Trainer.
I’ve been on an incredible journey physically and mentally, my confidence has grown and I would have never thought I could have stood at the front of a class or send my before and after pictures to my gyms Facebook page. I am now 74kg my shape is much better and my definition is coming in my upper body. For the first time in forever I felt comfortable with my body and mind. If my journey can inspire just one person to get up and change the way they feel then it was all worth it!”
