It goes without saying that during pregnancy your body goes through some amazing changes. The average person puts on 25kg which is perfectly natural and healthy. Following pregnancy the excess weight is often left on, and should only come off in a controlled manor, but what if you never lose the weight and the rather large distraction of the new baby, actually makes you forget about yourself, and your health. That is what happened to Amy but, as she shows, it is never too late.
“After having my second child I thought that it was my time for me to focus on myself and lose the weight I wanted. I was 16 stone wearing size 20/22 clothing and, more importantly, I was very unhappy about my body. It was my cousin who helped me kick start it all off, I was lucky as I had someone that could show me what good health, diet and fitness should look like. I am now well on my way to my goals and feel really positive. I never thought I would say that.
I lost 3 stone just by eating healthy and doing a bit of swimming, it was amazing to see what a good diet could do. Once I started to feel the benefits I felt better about myself and started to challenge myself more. I joined i-motion gym to get my stamina and fitness levels up. It was a scary thought at first but I went with a friend and we really started to get some benefits. When I started I could only do a slow walk with a 2 minute faster walk but now I can jog or run miles!
It was now time for the next challenge, I decided to look at weight training, it was a long way from where I started but I knew if I broke it down into small goals I could make it. I started on squats, just squats and did those for a whole year, then in December 2017 I started to bench press and deadlift too and now I’m getting that body confident that I’m going to do a power lifting competition at the end of this year.
I go to the gym 5 days a week and I workout very hard, I am over what people think and focused on myself and my goals. It means I’m pushing myself to my limits when I do it.
It’s taken time, there are always set backs and it is never easy, but the thing I made sure I did was always have the gym as a focus. It has helped me decrease and maintain my weight for a length of time but also increase my stamina and fitness levels.
I now weigh 11 stone 12 3/4lb and I haven’t even finished yet. I now know what I want to achieve on the outside as I’m stronger than I look, I know that it’s going to take time but boy am I determined to do it.”
Amy’s journey has been remarkable. She is an avid member of our gym family and we congratulate her for everything we have achieved. Be sure to let us know how your competitions go.
